General School Announcements
- Printed progress reports go home today, February 7. Parents, check your child's grades and attendance anytime using the Chalkable iNow home portal. You may get parent login information in the school office. Bring your photo ID to pick up your login information.
- February 18 is a teacher workday. No school for our students!
- Everyone is encouraged to sign up for LCHS Remind if you haven’t already. Text 81010 and type @lauderda in the text message box. Also you can follow the LCHS Facebook page and Twitter @lchstigers.
- The Anonymous Alerts app will be used by our school to allow students to anonymously report school-related incidents of bullying, fighting, threats, drug activity, and other problems.
- Students, do not take cups out of the cafeteria. This rule applies to drink cups and slushy cups. You must throw them away in the cafeteria.
- All 11th graders will take the ACT plus Writing on Wednesday, February 20. Students do NOT have to pay for this test.
- Elementary Class Pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, March 6.
- March 13 is a scheduled half day for our students. All students will be dismissed at 11:30 am on March 13.
- Spring Break will be March 25-29.
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events
- Congratulations to our varsity girls basketball team. We will host the Area 16 tournament finals vs Lexington tonight at 7:00. Both teams advance to sub-region games on Monday, February 11.
- Congratulations to our varsity boys basketball team. We will travel to Westminster Christian Academy for the Area 16 tournament finals on Friday, February 8, at 7:00. Both teams advance to sub-region games on Tuesday, February 12.
- Tennis season begins Monday, February 11. Varsity and JV girls will play Florence at Cox Creek courts, beginning at 3:30.
- Baseball season begins Monday, February 18. The varsity team plays Rogers at home beginning at 4:00.
- Softball season begins on February 18. JV plays in a tournament at Hatton High School. Varsity softball begins Monday, March 4.
Announcements Related to School Clubs, Events, Activities, and Opportunities
- Every senior needs to submit a casual senior picture to Mrs. Nunley’s email by Feb 8. Any senior who purchased a baby ad needs to turn in all pictures, notes, and money for the ad to Mrs. Nunley by Feb 8.
- Every senior needs to submit a childhood photo to Mrs. Jones by Feb 8. This photo will be used in the senior video played at prom.
- Students in grades 7-12, you now have a login for FREE ACT prep...go to https://onlineprep.act.org. Username is your school email, and password is word Tiger with month and date of birth. - All students in grades 7-12 are invited to the First Priority meetings each Thursday at 7:30 am in the high school library.
Announcements Related to School Fees and Orders
- Seniors will order caps and gowns on Friday, February 15.
- No students or teachers should be charging food in the lunchroom. Please do not carry a negative balance on your lunchroom account. If you have a negative balance currently, please pay it off as soon as possible.
- Prom tickets will be sold beginning March 4.
Announcements Related to Local Programs, Opportunities, Competitions, and Activities
- Rogersville Church of Christ offers a free tutoring service for students. Students in 1st - 4th grades can receive tutoring in reading and math. Students in 7th and 8th grades can receive tutoring in math. Tutoring sessions are on Wednesdays from 3 - 5 pm.
- Huntingdon Leadership Academy is a youth camp for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who are discerning their vocational callings. The camp will be hosted at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, June 23-28, 2019. HLA is a week-long retreat in the summer filled with worship, guest speakers, breakout sessions, small groups, community engagement, and a lot of fun! - Alabama Governor’s School applications are now available. This is for current juniors with a minimum 25 composite ACT. Program takes place June 16-28 at Samford University. If interested, come to guidance department to get an application. Deadline is March 15.
- The Alabama STEM Education Program will be hosting the first STEM Expose on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Please visit the website at www.alabamastemeducation.org for additional information. All middle and high schools in the state are encouraged to participate in the STEM Expose. - If you are looking for a life changing STEM experience, the US Army might have a program for you. The Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) has summer and year-long apprenticeship opportunities for you in universities and Army labs across the country. The following are some of the programs that are available for high school students: Research & Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP) - This is a summer STEM program that places talented high school students, from groups historically underserved in STEM, in research apprenticeships at our universities. - Teen Volunteer Program at Helen Keller Hospital is now accepting applications. Deadline to apply is April 25. You must be at least 15 years old to participate. See Mrs. Newton for an application.

- Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering invites you to our annual Engineering Day, hosted by the College of Engineering on campus. This will take place February 22, from 8:00AM - 1:00PM. Seventh through twelfth graders have opportunities to chat one-on-one with students and faculty, experience interactive exhibits, and visit classes and labs, including the new Shelby Center for Engineering Technology. - Mississippi State University is hosting Academic Insight programs: Feb. 16 - College of Ag and Life Science; College of Forest Resources; College of Architecture, Art & Design; College of Business; and Veterinary Medical Technology Program; Feb. 22 - Bagley College of Engineering; Feb. 23 - College of Education; College of Arts & Sciences; Programs are free and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. - The Honors College at MTSU will host an open house on Monday, February 18, 2019 (Presidents’ Day). Registration is now open at www.mtsu.edu/rsvp. The Honors College fosters the academic excellence and nurturing environment of a small liberal arts college within the setting of a major university. Announcements Related to Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid
- Jacksonville State University competitive scholarship deadline is March 1.
- Shoals Spark, a competition sponsored by UNA, is an idea competition for middle and high school students. Students submit creative ideas about how to make the Shoals a very cool place to live. The final deadline is February 20, 2019, and the competition is March 14, 2019. See Mrs. Newton for more information.
- The Tommy Smith Scholarship is accepting scholarship applications until May 31, 2019. To be eligible for the scholarship you must be a high school student that has been accepted into a college or university. Guidelines for the application: Write an essay answering the question, If you could start any business while in college or afterward what would it be and why? You must submit the form by May 31, 2019. A winner will be selected and contacted in June. Once the winner responds (within 2 weeks) the $1,000.00 will be sent to the winner's financial aid department. Interested students go to: http://tommysmithscholarship.com/
- Rural Health Scholars program is now accepting applications. This is for current juniors interested in a career in medicine or other health care. You will spend 5 weeks at The University of Alabama. Must have 3.0 GPA; 21 composite on ACT; and resident of Alabama for 5 years. Go to cchs.us.edu/rhs to apply.
- The University of Alabama is sponsoring the Rural Minority Health Scholars Program (RMHSP). The program is geared toward students in rural backgrounds that have an interest in health care profession. Application deadline is March 1. Program dates are May 26 through June 28. See Mrs. Newton for an application if interested. This is for current seniors with at least 21 composite on the ACT.
- College Counts Scholarship program is now open (closes Feb. 28). Students can earn scholarships in amounts of $2000 or $4000 (two-year/four-year). Must have ACT LOWER THAN 26, 2.75 GPA, Alabama resident, plan on enrolling in school in AL, and demonstrate financial need. Go to treasury.alabama.gov/collegecounts-scholarship.
- Martin Methodist is offering their Future Educators Scholarship. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in teaching. The Future Educators Scholarship Competition awards one full scholarship to promising education majors who have at least a 24 on their ACT. The competition will be held on Saturday, February 16. Awards are determined after the competition and one student will receive a full tuition scholarship for 4 years. - The Lauderdale County Soil & Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for a $500.00 scholarship sponsored by the Alabama Conservation District Employees Association. Applicant must be a U. S. citizen, high school senior, and living in the State of Alabama. Applications may be picked up at the USDA Service Center, Lauderdale County Soil & Water Conservation District, 2431 Darby Dr., Suite B, Florence AL 35630. - Each year, the America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders scholarship program awards more than $500,000 to eligible students pursuing ag-related studies. The application period ends February 6, 2019. This opportunity is available to FFA members and non-FFA members. Follow America's Farmers Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts to learn more. Each application needs two farmer endorsements. - South in Your City is an event that will be taking place on February 4, 2019. This is an event to answer any questions you may have about the University of South Alabama and it also gives you a chance to explore South without going all the way to Mobile. This event is open to any high school student. Your parents are more than welcome to come as well. - Regions Riding Forward scholarship is now available. Deadline to complete the essay about an African-American who has inspired you is February 28. Application can be found at regions.com/ridingforward. Scholarships worth $3,500 and $5,000 are up for grabs.
- Helen Keller Hospital is offering a scholarship worth $1000 to a student that will major in a healthcare field. Deadline to apply is March 22. See Mrs. Newton for an application.
- NWSCC scholarship deadline is March 1. Go to www.nwscc.edu and go to scholarships- application is all online this year.
- All local scholarships offered in our community are now accepting applications. See the guidance office if you want to apply.
- Senior members of the Key Club who would like to apply for The Kiwanis Club of Rogersville Scholarship should get an application from Ms. Ells by Thursday, February 14.
