General School Announcements
- The Junior Civitan Club is sponsoring a canned food drive for our local Fish and Loaves. Their supplies are pretty low after the holiday season. We will be collecting the cans through Friday, January 18. An Alabama and an Auburn collection box will be placed in the elementary and high school offices. Place your cans in your favorite team’s box and let’s see which team can bring in the most. ROLL TIDE and WAR EAGLE!
- There will be no school on Monday, January 21.
- Everyone is encouraged to sign up for LCHS Remind if you haven’t already. Text 81010 and type @lauderda in the text message box. Also you can follow the LCHS Facebook page and Twitter @lchstigers.
- The Anonymous Alerts app will be used by our school to allow students to anonymously report school-related incidents of bullying, fighting, threats, drug activity, and other problems.
- Students, do not take cups out of the cafeteria. This rule applies to drink cups and slushy cups. You must throw them away in the cafeteria.
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events
- 7B, 8G, and 8B basketball teams play Thursday at Brooks beginning at *3:30 pm*.
- BG, BB, VG, and VB basketball teams play *at* Lexington on Friday beginning at 4:00 pm.
- The basketball county tournament will be at Central this year, January 19 - January 26.
Announcements Related to School Clubs, Events, Activities, and Opportunities
- Students in grades 7-12, you now have a login for FREE ACT prep...go to https://onlineprep.act.org. Username is your school email, and password is word Tiger with month and date of birth. Example password: Tiger1011 for an October 11 DOB.
- All students in grades 7-12 are invited to the First Priority meetings each Thursday at 7:30 am in the high school library.
Announcements Related to School Fees and Orders
- No students or teachers should be charging food in the lunchroom. Please do not carry a negative balance on your lunchroom account. If you have a negative balance currently, please pay it off as soon as possible.
Announcements Related to Local Programs, Opportunities, Competitions, and Activities
- Brant Johnson will be on campus to speak to interested students in grades 8-12 on Wednesday, Jan. 23. He will let you know about careers related to the pipefitter local union. The meeting will be in the library at 2:00. If interested in attending, please reply to the email from Mrs. Bishop.
- DESIGN A T-SHIRT CONTEST for Shoals Earth Day Fest 2019 is open to students in grades 4-12. The design theme should illustrate various ways to protect our environment and Earth. Grand prize winner’s design will be printed on this year's t-shirt used for promotional purposes in 2019. Each student in the winner’s class will be given a t-shirt. The grand prize winner also receives $100.00. ENTRIES ARE DUE ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1. For more information see Mrs. Morgan.
- Rogersville Church of Christ offers a free tutoring service for students. Students in 1st - 4th grades can receive tutoring in reading and math. Students in 7th and 8th grades can receive tutoring in math. Tutoring sessions are on Wednesdays from 3 - 5 pm.
- Huntingdon Leadership Academy is a youth camp for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who are discerning their vocational callings. The camp will be hosted at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, June 23-28, 2019. HLA is a week-long retreat in the summer filled with worship, guest speakers, breakout sessions, small groups, community engagement, and a lot of fun! - Score Plus is hosting a junior only ACT Prep course for $249. Starts Jan. 22. Cost includes 10 hours of instruction and a ACT practice book. To register call 256-740-9536.
- Alabama Governor’s School applications are now available. This is for current juniors with a minimum 25 composite ACT. Program takes place June 16-28 at Samford University. If interested, come to guidance department to get an application. Deadline is March 15.
- The Alabama STEM Education Program will be hosting the first STEM Expose on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Please visit the website at www.alabamastemeducation.org for additional information. All middle and high schools in the state are encouraged to participate in the STEM Expose. - If you are looking for a life changing STEM experience, the US Army might have a program for you. The Army Educational Outreach Program (AEOP) has summer and year-long apprenticeship opportunities for you in universities and Army labs across the country. The following are some of the programs that are available for high school students: Research & Engineering Apprenticeship Program (REAP) - This is a summer STEM program that places talented high school students, from groups historically underserved in STEM, in research apprenticeships at our universities. - A representative from Martin Methodist will be on campus today at 1:30 pm to meet with students interested in attending.

- Preview Day for Jacksonville State University is March 9. Register at jsu.edu/previewday. Fall 2019 admission applications are being accepted now.
- Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering invites you to our annual Engineering Day, hosted by the College of Engineering on campus. This will take place February 22, from 8:00AM - 1:00PM. Seventh through twelfth graders have opportunities to chat one-on-one with students and faculty, experience interactive exhibits, and visit classes and labs, including the new Shelby Center for Engineering Technology. - High school juniors and seniors are invited to attend the STEM High School Visitation Day on February 4, 2019 in the Auburn University Student Center Ballroom from 8 am to 2 pm. In addition to interacting with current students, faculty and staff, you will also have an opportunity to explore your science, engineering and mathematical interests. Learn about student life, go on a student-guided tour of various campus facilities, and join us for an interactive lunch session. Parents, counselors and teachers are welcome to attend. - Mississippi State University is hosting Academic Insight programs: Feb. 16 - College of Ag and Life Science; College of Forest Resources; College of Architecture, Art & Design; College of Business; and Veterinary Medical Technology Program; Feb. 22 - Bagley College of Engineering; Feb. 23 - College of Education; College of Arts & Sciences; Programs are free and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Announcements Related to Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid
- Free FAFSA help will be offered at Lauderdale County BOE Annex on Jan. 17 from 5:30-7:30 PM. If you need help filling out FAFSA, bring your 2017 income tax return paperwork.
- Jacksonville State University competitive scholarship deadline is March 1.
- Shoals Spark, a competition sponsored by UNA, is an idea competition for middle and high school students. Students submit creative ideas about how to make the Shoals a very cool place to live. The final deadline is February 20, 2019, and the competition is March 14, 2019. See Mrs. Newton for more information.
- The Tommy Smith Scholarship is accepting scholarship applications until May 31, 2019. To be eligible for the scholarship you must be a high school student that has been accepted into a college or university. Guidelines for the application: Write an essay answering the question, If you could start any business while in college or afterward what would it be and why? You must submit the form by May 31, 2019. A winner will be selected and contacted in June. Once the winner responds (within 2 weeks) the $1,000.00 will be sent to the winner's financial aid department. Interested students go to: http://tommysmithscholarship.com/
- National Beta Club Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. Deadline is Jan. 24. Visit betaclub.org/scholarship for more details. Must be a member of Beta to apply.
- UNA is offering a scholarship for students who are underrepresented. The Presidential Mentors Academy offers financial assistance, leadership development training, peer mentoring, and academic advising. Deadline is Feb. 1. - Rural Health Scholars program is now accepting applications. This is for current juniors interested in a career in medicine or other health care. You will spend 5 weeks at The University of Alabama. Must have 3.0 GPA; 21 composite on ACT; and resident of Alabama for 5 years. Go to cchs.us.edu/rhs to apply.
- Multiple $1,000 scholarships are available from the Alfa Foundation. Must be a member of the Alabama Farmers Federation (cost $30 to join). Please contact Tiffany White for assistance. Her email is TMWhite@alfains.com or call 256-247-0980. Deadline to apply is Jan. 31, 2019.
- The University of Alabama is sponsoring the Rural Minority Health Scholars Program (RMHSP). The program is geared toward students in rural backgrounds that have an interest in health care profession. Application deadline is March 1. Program dates are May 26 through June 28. See Mrs. Newton for an application if interested. This is for current seniors with at least 21 composite on the ACT.
- College Counts Scholarship program is now open (closes Feb. 28). Students can earn scholarships in amounts of $2000 or $4000 (two-year/four-year). Must have ACT LOWER THAN 26, 2.75 GPA, Alabama resident, plan on enrolling in school in AL, and demonstrate financial need. Go to treasury.alabama.gov/collegecounts-scholarship.
- Martin Methodist is offering their Future Educators Scholarship. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in teaching. The Future Educators Scholarship Competition awards one full scholarship to promising education majors who have at least a 24 on their ACT. In 2019, the competition will be held on Saturday, February 16. Awards are determined after the competition and one student will receive a full tuition scholarship for 4 years. - The Lauderdale County Soil & Water Conservation District is now accepting applications for a $500.00 scholarship sponsored by the Alabama Conservation District Employees Association. Applicant must be a U. S. citizen, high school senior, and living in the State of Alabama. Applications may be picked up at the USDA Service Center, Lauderdale County Soil & Water Conservation District, 2431 Darby Dr., Suite B, Florence AL 35630. - Each year, the America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders scholarship program awards more than $500,000 to eligible students pursuing ag-related studies. The application period ends February 6, 2019.
