General School Announcements
- Report cards for 2nd 9 weeks (and 1st semester final averages for grades 7-12) will go home on Thursday, January 10, 2019.
- Students, do not take cups out of the cafeteria. This rule applies to drink cups and slushy cups. You must throw them away in the cafeteria.
- Everyone is encouraged to sign up for LCHS Remind if you haven’t already. Text 81010 and type @lauderda in the text message box. Also you can follow the LCHS Facebook page and Twitter @lchstigers.
- The Anonymous Alerts app will be used by our school to allow students to anonymously report school-related incidents of bullying, fighting, threats, drug activity, and other problems.
- There will be no school on Monday, January 21.
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events
- Junior high basketball teams (7B, 8G, 8B) play at Deshler today beginning at 4:30 pm.
- BG, BB, VG, and VB basketball teams play Wilson at home today beginning at 4:00 pm.
Announcements Related to School Clubs, Events, Activities, and Opportunities
- Seniors will meet in the library at the beginning of 3rd period today.
- Seniors need to submit childhood photos for the prom video to Mrs. Jones. Check your email for instructions. Contact Mrs. Jones if you have questions.
- Students in grades 7-12, you now have a login for FREE ACT prep...go to https://onlineprep.act.org. Username is your school email, and password is word Tiger with month and date of birth. Example password: Tiger1011 for an October 11 DOB.
- All students in grades 7-12 are invited to the First Priority meetings each Thursday at 7:30 am in the high school library.
Announcements Related to School Fees and Orders
- Library and chromebook fees are due. Students are encouraged to pay a little each week in order to reduce their account balances.
- No students or teachers should be charging food in the lunchroom. Please do not carry a negative balance on your lunchroom account. If you have a negative balance currently, please pay it off as soon as possible.
Announcements Related to Local Programs, Opportunities, Competitions, and Activities
- The deadline to register for the February 9 ACT is Friday, January 11. Any 10th grader who wants to take dual enrollment classes as an 11th grader will need to earn a qualifying score on the ACT before his/her 11th grade year.
- Rogersville Church of Christ offers a free tutoring service for students. Students in 1st - 4th grades can receive tutoring in reading and math. Students in 7th and 8th grades can receive tutoring in math. Tutoring for 2nd semester begins on January 16. Tutoring sessions are on Wednesdays from 3 - 5 pm.
- Huntingdon Leadership Academy is a youth camp for rising 10th, 11th, and 12th graders who are discerning their vocational callings. The camp will be hosted at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL, June 23-28, 2019. HLA is a week-long retreat in the summer filled with worship, guest speakers, breakout sessions, small groups, community engagement, and a lot of fun! - DESIGN A T-SHIRT CONTEST for Shoals Earth Day Fest 2019 is open to students in grades 4-12. The design theme should illustrate various ways to protect our environment and Earth. Grand prize winner’s design will be printed on this year's t-shirt used for promotional purposes in 2019. Each student in the winner’s class will be given a t-shirt. The grand prize winner also receives $100.00. ENTRIES ARE DUE ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 1. For more information see Mrs. Morgan.
- Score Plus is hosting a junior only ACT Prep course for $249. Starts Jan. 22. Cost includes 10 hours of instruction and a ACT practice book. To register call 256-740-9536.

- A representative from Judson College will be on our campus January 11 at 1:45 pm to meet with interested female 11th and 12th graders.
- A representative from The University of West Alabama will be on our campus January 30 at 1:45 pm.
- Preview Day for Jacksonville State University is March 9. Register at jsu.edu/previewday. Fall 2019 admission applications are being accepted now.
- Auburn University's Samuel Ginn College of Engineering invites you to our annual Engineering Day, hosted by the College of Engineering on campus. This will take place February 22, from 8:00AM - 1:00PM. Seventh through twelfth graders have opportunities to chat one-on-one with students and faculty, experience interactive exhibits, and visit classes and labs, including the new Shelby Center for Engineering Technology. - Mississippi State University is hosting Academic Insight programs:

Announcements Related to Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid
- Jacksonville State University competitive scholarship deadline is March 1.
- Shoals Spark, a competition sponsored by UNA, is an idea competition for middle and high school students. Students submit creative ideas about how to make the Shoals a very cool place to live. The final deadline is February 20, 2019, and the competition is March 14, 2019. See Mrs. Newton for more information.
- The Smith Scholarship Foundation has begun accepting online applications for the Smith Scholarship Program. The Smith Scholarship Foundation Program is an Accountability Scholarship Program providing assistance to High School Seniors who have given back to their community through volunteer activities or by caring for family while overcoming financial and personal challenges. The deadline to apply is January 7, 2019.
- The Tommy Smith Scholarship is accepting scholarship applications until May 31, 2019. To be eligible for the scholarship you must be a high school student that has been accepted into a college or university. Guidelines for the application: Write an essay answering the question, If you could start any business while in college or afterward what would it be and why? You must submit the form by May 31, 2019. A winner will be selected and contacted in June. Once the winner responds (within 2 weeks) the $1,000.00 will be sent to the winner's financial aid department. Interested students go to: http://tommysmithscholarship.com/
- National Beta Club Scholarship Program is now accepting applications. Deadline is Jan. 24. Visit betaclub.org/scholarship for more details. Must be a member of Beta to apply.
- UNA is offering a scholarship for students who are underrepresented. The Presidential Mentors Academy offers financial assistance, leadership development training, peer mentoring, and academic advising. Deadline is Feb. 1. - Rural Health Scholars program is now accepting applications. This is for current juniors interested in a career in medicine or other health care. You will spend 5 weeks at The University of Alabama. Must have 3.0 GPA; 21 composite on ACT; and resident of Alabama for 5 years. Go to cchs.us.edu/rhs to apply.
- Free FAFSA help at Lauderdale County BOE Annex on Jan. 17 from 5:30-7:30 PM.
- Multiple $1,000 scholarships are available from the Alfa Foundation. Must be a member of the Alabama Farmers Federation (cost $30 to join). Please contact Tiffany White for assistance. Her email is TMWhite@alfains.com or call 256-247-0980. Deadline to apply is Jan. 31, 2019.
- The University of Alabama is sponsoring the Rural Minority Health Scholars Program (RMHSP). The program is geared toward students in rural backgrounds that have an interest in health care profession. Application deadline is March 1. Program dates are May 26 through June 28. See Mrs. Newton for an application if interested. This is for current seniors with at least 21 composite on the ACT.
- College Counts Scholarship program is now open (closes Feb. 28). Students can earn scholarships in amounts of $2000 or $4000 (two-year/four-year). Must have ACT LOWER THAN 26, 2.75 GPA, Alabama resident, plan on enrolling in school in AL, and demonstrate financial need. Go to treasury.alabama.gov/collegecounts-scholarship.
- Martin Methodist is offering their Future Educators Scholarship. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in teaching. The Future Educators Scholarship Competition awards one full scholarship to promising education majors who have at least a 24 on their ACT. In 2019, the competition will be held on Saturday, February 16. Awards are determined after the competition and one student will receive a full tuition scholarship for 4 years.
