General School Announcements
- School will be closed on Friday, November 11, for Veterans Day.
- Students and parents, please keep a check on grades and absences in your PowerSchool portal. A printed progress report will be issued on November 10.
- Reminder for all students: There is only a 3-day period for turning in excuses after you are absent. Please get your excuses turned in ASAP.
- No school for students the whole week of Thanksgiving, November 21-25. No school for students from December 19 - January 2.
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events:
- Football (V) will play at Gordo for the second round of playoffs on Friday, November 11. Tickets for all playoff games must be purchased on GoFan.
- Basketball (BG) plays at Deshler on November 10 beginning at *7 PM*. Basketball (VG) plays Trinity Presbyterian at Mortimer Jordan on Saturday, November 12, at 11:00 AM. Basketball teams (BB, VG, VB) play at Central on November 14 beginning at 5:00 PM. Basketball (BG) hosts Deshler on November 17 beginning at 3:30 PM. Basketball teams (BG, BB, VG, VB) host Lexington on November 18, beginning at 4:00 PM. Basketball teams (BB, VG, VB) host Brooks on November 21 beginning at 4:30 PM. Basketball teams (VG, VB) play at Wallace State Hanceville on November 23. Basketball teams (BG, BB, VG, VB) host Rogers on November 25, beginning at 3:00 PM.

Announcements Related to School Clubs, Events, Activities, and Opportunities
- The Drama Club will present its fall production (A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens) on December 6, 8, and 9.
- JAG is planning a LifeSouth Community Blood Drive on our campus for Thursday, November 10.
- Sign-up for the annual Angel Tree Shopping Trip is now open! Only 50 students will be allowed to go. The cost to go on the trip is $35 ($30 for the trip and $5 for pizza and a drink). The trip is Friday, December 9, and students must sign up by November 30. Only paid spots will be held.

- The ACT will be given on Saturday, December 10. Testing begins at 8:00 AM, so set your alarm if you registered for this test.

- Students, especially seniors, should check their school email accounts daily to make sure they get all scholarship information.
- Jacksonville State University Fall Preview Day is November 12, 2022. You will be able to create your own schedule with options to take a tour, explore academic programs and more. Go to jsu.edu for more information.
- Huntingdon College Preview Day is Monday, February 20, 2023. You are invited to schedule a personal visit any weekday. Go to www.huntingdon.edu/visit to do so.
- UNA Preview Day is November 12, 2022.
- UA University Day is November 11, 2022.
Announcements Related to Scholarships
- ALABAMA CATTLEWOMEN’S ASSOCIATION LOUISE WILSON ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP: Male and female students are eligible to apply. The student, his/her mother, stepmother or grandmother must have been a member of the Alabama CattleWomen’s Association for the years of 2020, 2021 and 2022. (If dues were not paid in 2020 due to the COVID pandemic, but were paid in 2019 and 2021 please make a note on the application.) Receive an application from your local CattleWomen’s association or email Shelby Windham at shelbyw2014@gmail.com for an application. All application materials are due January 31, 2023.
- The Linly Heflin Scholarship is now open for applications. The deadline to apply is January 5, 2023.
- The Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is the largest undergraduate scholarship program available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend the nation’s best four-year colleges and universities. The award is for up to $55,000 per year to attend a four-year accredited undergraduate school. Applicants must be seniors in high school intending to enroll in an undergraduate program in the Fall of 2023. Applicants must maintain at least a 3.5 unweighted GPA. During the selection process, the Foundation will conduct a full financial review which will take into account all income and assets of the student and the student’s parents.
