General School Announcements
- Wednesday, November 11, is Veterans Day. School is closed. Wednesdays for the rest of the semester are virtual learning days.
- REMINDER: Students have 3 days to turn in excuses to the office after an absence.
- Academic progress reports go home on Friday, November 13.
- Makeup yearbook picture day is December 1.
- November is Native American Heritage month. Our libraries are highlighting the rich and diverse cultures of Native American people and their traditions, histories, and important contributions. Our libraries want to raise awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and honor the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges. Visit your school library and website for more information.
- Students in grades 7-12 will take semester exams on December 15, 17, and 18. These exams count 20% of the overall semester grade for each class. The 1st 9-week average counts 40%, and the 2nd 9-week average counts 40%.
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events
- Cross country runners, Colby Corum and Addi Embry, compete in the state meet on Saturday, November 14.
- Basketball (7b, 8g, 8b) hosts Wilson on Tuesday, November 10, beginning at 4:30 pm. Basketball (7b, 8g, 8b) plays at Rogers on Thursday, November 12, beginning at 4:30 pm in the old gym. Basketball (BG, BB) plays at Rogers on Thursday, November 12, beginning at 5:00 in the new gym. Basketball (7g, 8g, 7b 8b) plays at Elkmont on Friday, November 13, beginning at 4:00 pm. Basketball (7b, 8b) plays in a tournament at Central on Saturday, November 14. Basketball (7b, 8g, 8b) hosts Central on Tuesday, November 17, beginning at 4:30 pm in our old gym. Basketball (BG, BB, VG, VB) hosts Wilson on Tuesday, November 17, beginning at 3:30 pm in the Larry Sinyard.
- Information about basketball games:
- The Lauderdale County School System has placed a limit of 700 tickets for each same-day basketball competition.
- Tickets will be available to pre-purchase through GoFan or at the gate as you go in (until capacity is reached).
- The URL for GoFan is www.gofan.co. Search Lauderdale County High School for events.
- Admission at the gate is $5.00 for adults; $4.00 for students. Please have correct change for purchasing tickets at the gate.
- Following Governor Ivey’s mandate, masks must be worn by everyone entering the building.
- We ask that everyone maintain social distancing between households when seated in the bleachers.
- Visiting team fans should sit in the balcony of the visitor side. Only coaches, players, and staff are allowed on the bottom floor of the visiting side.
- Concessions will be available, but limited and pre-packaged.

- Seniors should fill out the Transcript Request form *after* you have applied to the college of your choice.
- Seniors should add the senior calendar maintained by the guidance office so that it will show up on your Google calendar. This calendar has lots of dates for testing, scholarships, senior ordering information etc. Please check your calendar regularly. Information about many scholarship opportunities are posted there.
- First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Rogersville has graciously offered Free WIFI in their parking lot to any student in need. You must be accompanied by an adult if under driving age. Please see the office if you need the password and login information. The password is 2562473339 and it should be listed as FCPCHURCH.
- The next ACT will be given December 12. It will be given at LCHS. The deadline to register has been extended until November 20.
Announcements Related to College Admissions and Information Sessions
- The University of Montevallo is accepting applications to their Honors program. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2021. More information has been placed on your calendar.
- The University of Alabama Early College program is now taking applications. The UA Early College provides high school sophomores, juniors and seniors with the opportunity to earn college credit from the University of Alabama. If you have a GPA of 3.65 or above for the 2019-2020 school year, you may want to consider this option. There are 80 different online and on-campus courses to choose from. Course credits will transfer to most colleges and universities.
- The University of North Alabama Fall 2021 application is now live! Also, the scholarship application is now live! Students will need to have their FAFSA and admissions application completed before applying.
- The William Randolph Hearst Foundation is sponsoring the 59th Annual United States Senate Youth Program.This year due to COVID-19 restrictions, participation in the program will be virtual. The United States Senate Youth Program Washington Week Online will be held March 14-18, 2021. This opportunity is open to Juniors and Seniors. Come by the Guidance Office if you are interested.
Announcements Related to Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid
- Seniors: Register at fastweb.com, Cappex.com, and scholarships.com for lots of good scholarship information and opportunities.
- The 2021 Prudential Spirit of Community Award is now available for students in grades 9-12. You have to have been involved with Key Club and/or 4H. The application deadline is November 10, 2020. See Mrs. Morgan or Mrs. Brown for more information.
- Seniors: Please be sure to check your emails and calendar each day. There is something new coming in everyday. Virtual College tours, scholarships, college applications, and much more.
- The Horatio Alger Scholarship and the Horatio Alger Career Tech Scholarship are now open for applications. State scholarships are awarded to eligible students in all fifty states and the District of Columbia. The program specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. The requirements to meet are listed on your calendar, one for each type of scholarship.
- Seniors: The Smith Scholarship is now open for applications. Please check your calendar for more information. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2021.
- Seniors, Mrs. Morgan has emailed a list of the “Best Scholarships in Alabama” to you. If you need more information, come by the Guidance office.
- The 2021 ALET Debbie Rice Memorial Scholarship is open for applications. The Alabama Leaders in Educational Technology will award a $10,000 scholarship to a graduating senior. If you are interested in pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a technology related field you should consider this scholarship. Criteria to apply is available on your Senior Calendar.

- Huntingdon College is offering The Judy Marley Montgomery Choral Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to any student to perform in The Huntingdon College Concert Choir and Chamber Choir. The amount of this award is a $15,000 annual tuition scholarship.
- The Hagan Scholarship is now open for applications. The deadline to apply is November 15, 2020. Lots more information is on your Senior Calendar.
- The Judy Marley Montgomery Choral Scholarship is awarded to any student to perform in The Huntingdon College Concert Choir and Chamber Choir. The amount of this award is a $15,500.00 annual tuition scholarship. A student may, however, qualify for an even greater scholarship based on merit.
