General School Announcements
- Elementary classes will take class pictures on Wednesday, February 26.
- #YouBelongHere -- Teachers, please remember to take a pic of class periods that have 100% attendance. Also, report it on the google form for 100% attendance. There will be prizes for the class with the most 100% attendance days.
- The 3rd 9-week grading period ends on March 13. Report cards go home March 19.
- All students may eat breakfast for free this year. Please arrive in plenty of time to eat and still get to class on time.
- Our school is not accepting faxed doctors' notes to excuse absences. Please turn in paper doctors' notes to the school office. Notes must be turned in within 3 days of returning to school.
- Each student has up to five days per semester that can be excused using a parent note. Notes must be turned in within 3 days of returning to school.
- Parents, check your child's grades and attendance anytime using the Chalkable iNow home portal. You may get parent login information in the school office. Bring your photo ID to pick up your login information.

- All students in grades 7-12, check your email each school day! Please read all library notifications. You will receive an individual notification email when a book is due. You should log into your library account and renew your library books when needed. Late fines will be assessed on all overdue books checked out through the library.
- Wednesday, March 4, is a half day for students; all students will be dismissed at 11:30 am. There will be no school for students during Spring Break, Monday - Friday, March 30 - April 3. Wednesday, April 29, is a half day for students; all students will be dismissed at 11:30 am. Thursday, May 21, is the final day of school.
- Students 7-12: Properly clean and check the condition of your issued Chromebook and charger. Report damage to your classroom teacher and then to Mrs. Jones in the library. There is no charge to replace missing screws on back panel. Full replacement cost will be assessed for missing manufacturer labels.
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events
- VG and VB basketball will play in the regional finals at Wallace State Hanceville today. The girls play Phil Campbell at 12:30 pm, and the boys play New Hope at 2:15 pm. All students who want to go support the teams are excused from school today, but need to turn in their ticket on Thursday in order to get the day excused.
- Tennis (girls only) plays Athens Bible School at Athens High School on Thursday, February 20, beginning at 3:30 pm. Tennis plays Central at Royal Avenue on Friday, February 21, beginning at 3:30 pm.
- Jr high softball plays in a tournament at Florence on Friday - Saturday, February 21-22. V and JV softball play at Florence on Monday, February 24, beginning at 4:30 pm.
- Baseball (JV) plays a doubleheader at Wilson on Thursday, February 20, beginning at 4:00 pm. Baseball (J, JV) plays at Central on Friday, February 21, beginning at 4:00 pm. Baseball (Jr high) plays a doubleheader vs Central at home beginning at 4:00 pm on Friday, February 21, beginning at 4:00 pm.
- This past weekend we had five students perform at the Alabama District 3 Honor band, which consists of students from all over northwest Alabama. Danielle Smith, Makenna Shaffer, and Meg Gautney performed in the middle school honor band. Brayden Smith and Kaleb Williams (first clarinet in our district) played in the high school honor band. Honor bands are made up of top band students who practice, audition, and are selected to participate in an all-star type band. They compete with students from all over the state and sometimes all over the southeast. After selection, these students come together, rehearse for 8-12 hours and then perform difficult music for their friends and family. Congratulations to our five students for their honor band achievement.

- SENIORS- IF you have NOT completed your FAFSA and would like to, please contact Mrs. Newton.
- The high school library is recognizing Black History Month during the month of February. Visit our library for our collection of books celebrating black Americans.
- Students in grades 7-12 are invited to Fresh Start on Monday mornings in the high school library at 7:30 am.
- First Priority will meet on Thursday mornings in the high school library at 7:30 am.
- Prom is on Friday, March 20, at the Florence Lauderdale Coliseum.
- The ceremony for Mr. and Miss LCHS will be Friday, April 10.
- Seniors have exams on May 7-8. All underclassmen have exams on May 19-21.
- Senior class night is Saturday, May 9.
- Graduation is Friday, May 22.

- No students or teachers should be charging food in the lunchroom. Please do not carry a negative balance on your lunchroom account. If you have a negative balance currently, please pay it off as soon as possible.
Announcements Related to Local Programs, Opportunities, Competitions, and Activities
- Current 11th graders that are wanting to co-op next school year need to come by the guidance office and pick up your application for acceptance to co-op.
- All 4th -12th graders are invited to participate in the 13th annual SHOALS DAY EARTH FEST T-SHIRT DESIGN contest. Grand prize winners receiver $150.00 and your design will be printed on T-shirts that will be used for promotional purposes. Come to the HS Guidance Office for a registration form. All entries are due February 21.
- ALL 11th GRADERS now have a FREE ACT prep account at www.onlineprep.act.org. Username is school email and password has the format Tigersmmddyy with the student's 6-digit birthdate.
- All 11th graders will participate in ACT + Writing demographics on the morning of Feb. 20 in the cafeteria. If you go to shift A ATCTC, you will stay on campus to complete the forms.
- All 11th graders will take the ACT plus Writing during school hours on Tuesday, March 10.
- Score Plus is now offering ASVAB prep for students interested in the military.

- Alabama Governor’s School applications for current juniors is now available. Deadline is March 16, 2020. You may find the application at http://alabamags.org/students/nomination-packet . Great program to put on your resume. Need a 25 composite on the ACT, 170 on PSAT, or 1650 on SAT.

- Union University’s College of Pharmacy is offering an overnight camp providing an opportunity for high school and college students to explore training and careers in pharmacy (open to rising 9th grade students through college seniors). Announcements Related to Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid
- Helen Keller Hospital is proud to offer a $1000 scholarship to worthy students who plan to attend a college or university for a course of study within a healthcare field. Applications must be completed and returned to our Scholarship Committee Chairperson, Betty Wood, 1705 Brentwood, Muscle Shoals, AL 35661. Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2020. Come to the guidance office for an application.
- NWSCC scholarship application is available for students to apply online. Foundation Scholarships are a separate application and the deadline is March 2, 2020. https://www.nwscc.edu/about-nw-scc/foundation ***Please Note: Completion of the NW-SCC Application for Admission and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is required for ALL scholarships.

- The College Board is partnering with scholarship providers connected to the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT and PST. If you are interested in any of these scholarships, come by the Guidance office for more information.

- College Counts scholarship is now available. Deadline to apply is Feb. 27. Apply at treasury.alabama.gov/collegecounts-scholarship . Students must have a 26 or LOWER ACT score, a minimum 2.75 GPA, be a US and Alabama resident, enroll in an Alabama eligbile school, and demonstrate financial need.
- The Alabama Conservation District Employees Association is now accepting applications for six $500.00 scholarships. The deadline to apply is March 13. If you are interested there are applications in the Guidance Office.
- If you are a senior member of the Key Club you are encouraged to apply for a scholarship from the Kiwanis Club of Rogersville. If you are interested come by the guidance office. The deadline to apply is March 16, 2020.
- The University of Montevallo is offering scholarships for seniors interested in poetry. If that is you... come by the guidance office for more information.
