Announcements for Tuesday, September 17
General School Announcements
- Students have a half day of school on Wednesday, September 18. All students will be dismissed at 11:30 am.
- Homecoming representatives will be announced at the pep rally on Friday, September 20. The elementary representatives will be announced around 2:15, and the high school representatives will be announced around 2:30.
- All students may eat breakfast for free this year. Please arrive in plenty of time to eat and still get to class on time.
- Our school is not accepting faxed doctors' notes to excuse absences. Please turn in paper doctors' notes to the school office.
- Each student has up to five days per semester that can be excused using a parent note.

- Our schoolwide Remind group has been shut down. It will no longer be a free service for groups larger than 150. Our group was around 1500.
- Parents, check your child's grades and attendance anytime using the Chalkable iNow home portal. You may get parent login information in the school office. Bring your photo ID to pick up your login information.
- Students, do not take cups out of the cafeteria. This rule applies to drink cups and slushy cups. You must throw them away in the cafeteria.

- Our elementary library book fair will be Monday - Friday, September 23 - 27.
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events
- Varsity (6:00) and JV (5:00) volleyball teams play at Colbert Heights today. 7th and 8th volleyball teams play at Waterloo on Thursday, September 19, beginning at 6:30 pm. Varsity volleyball plays in a tournament at Brooks High School on Saturday, September 21. JV volleyball plays in a tournament at Elkmont High School on Saturday, September 21.
- Cross Country competes in the Randolph Classic today. Team members will be released from class early. A list of students involved is on the shared Google calendar for teachers.
- Varsity football plays at Lexington Friday, September 20, at 7:00. We will have a pep rally. Advance tickets will be sold in the office during school hours.
- Jr high and JV football plays at Lexington on Monday, September 23, beginning at 5:30 pm.
- Homecoming is Friday, October 11. We will host the Phil Campbell Bobcats.
Announcements Related to School Clubs, Events, Activities, and Opportunities
- The Velcro Pygmies will be in concert at our school on Monday afternoon, October 7. Concert tickets are on sale today for $10.00 each. Purchase from Mrs. Mason or Ms. Ells.
- The Robotics team will meet every Tuesday and Thursday after school until 5 pm in Ms. Evans’s room. Please join us, even if you did not come to the interest meeting! There is a spot for everyone! We need a spirit squad, a marketing team, builders, and programmers. The local BEST Robotics Game Day is October 5.
- Junior Civitan Club dues are $15 and must be paid by Oct 1.
- Students 7-12 are invited to Fresh Start on Monday mornings in the high school library at 7:15 am.
- First Priority will meet on Thursday mornings in the high school library at 7:30 am.
Announcements Related to School Fees and Orders
- No students or teachers should be charging food in the lunchroom. Please do not carry a negative balance on your lunchroom account. If you have a negative balance currently, please pay it off as soon as possible.
Announcements Related to Local Programs, Opportunities, Competitions, and Activities
- ASVAB testing for all 11th graders will be Wednesday. Students need to report to testing location during the morning announcements so that testing can start as soon as possible. Last name A-H will report to the AV room; J-W will report to the library. Remember you must participate in order to be able to complete the career interest inventory.
- JUNIORS: Make sure you have your Chromebooks to vote for Homecoming on Wednesday morning before you begin the ASVAB.
- ALL 11th GRADERS now have a FREE ACT prep account at www.onlineprep.act.org. Username is school email and password has the format Tigersmmddyy with the student's 6-digit birthdate.
- Any current 10th grade student interested in being considered for attending the HOBY (Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership) in May should send Mrs. Newton an email. This is a weekend trip to Troy University to learn valuable leadership skills.
- Any senior that missed Mrs. Newton helping you set up your FAFSA ID during economics class should come see her to get that taken care of.
- Open House for Alabama School of Fine Arts is Saturday, October 19. Current 6th -10th graders are able to apply.
- Academy Day (for students interested in a US Service Academy appointment) will be September 29 (2 to 4 PM) @ Madison Academy. RSVP 256-551-0190 or timothy.jackson@mail.house.gov
- Score Plus is now offering ASVAB prep for students interested in the military.

- PSAT testing for current 10/11 grade students will be Oct. 16. The cost for the test is $17.00.
- A county-wide job shadow event for seniors will take place on Wednesday, September 18. Thanks to Mrs. Bishop and Mrs. Walton for organizing this event.
- Current 10th grade students interested in being nominated to participate in the University of Alabama Capstone Leadership Academy should contact Mrs. Newton via email by Sept. 18. You must have at least a 3.0 GPA. Academy will take place March 5 & 6.
Announcements Related to College Admissions and Information Sessions
- A representative from The University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) will be on our campus to talk to interested students on Friday, September 27, at 1:45 pm.
- Huntingdon College Preview Days will be October 12; November 9; and February 17. Go to www.huntingdon.edu/visit to request a date.
- Scholars Recognition Day at Mississippi State will be Oct. 21, 28 and Nov. 4. To be eligible you need 30+composite on ACT. If interested, please see Mrs. Newton.
- Fall Preview Days for Mississippi State will be Oct. 14, Nov. 11 and 25. Registration will open Sept. 16. Go to previewday.msstate.edu to attend.

- USA Rep will be at the Marriott Shoals Hotel and Spa on Oct. 31. More details on time at a later date.
Announcements Related to Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid
- Applications for college scholarships for undergraduate programs are now open through the Common App. Many scholarship applications for high school seniors are done exclusively through the Common App. Deadline is November 13, 2019.
- Horatio Alger scholarship is now available. Up to $25,000 awards. Deadline to apply is Oct. 25. Must have 2.0 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and be involved in community service. Apply at scholars.horatioalger.org
- The 2020 Prudential Spirit of Community Award is now available. This is for students (grades 5 to 12) that have volunteered over the past year. Go to spirit.prudential.com or nassp.org/spirit to apply. Deadline is Nov. 5.
- The College Board is partnering with scholarship providers connected to the SAT, PSAT/NMSQT and PST. If you are interested in any of these scholarships, come by the Guidance office for more information.
