General School Announcements

- Monday May 6th is Wishbone Day and we ask everyone to wear yellow in support of Kolton Naylor, a 6th grader here at LCHS. We are also having a hat day that day with all proceeds going to the OI foundation. OI (Osteogenesis Imperfecta) is better known as brittle bone disease.
- High School Awards Day is Wednesday, May 8.
- Elementary Awards Day is Wednesday, May 15.
- The last day of school is Thursday, May 23.
- Graduation is Friday, May 24.
- Everyone is encouraged to sign up for LCHS Remind if you haven’t already. Text 81010 and type @lauderda in the text message box. Also you can follow the LCHS Facebook page and Twitter @lchstigers.
- The Anonymous Alerts app will be used by our school to allow students to anonymously report school-related incidents of bullying, fighting, threats, drug activity, and other problems.
- Parents, check your child's grades and attendance anytime using the Chalkable iNow home portal. You may get parent login information in the school office. Bring your photo ID to pick up your login information.
- Students, do not take cups out of the cafeteria. This rule applies to drink cups and slushy cups. You must throw them away in the cafeteria.
- All students in grades 7-12, check your email each school day. Reply to Mrs. Jones if you have questions concerning your library account. Payments may be made to reduce the balance to zero on your account. Students must clean all Chromebook items at home, and complete all inventory procedures in library. All Chromebooks/chargers/cases/pouches/straps must be returned to our H.S. Library when finished with last exam for 2018-2019 school year. Deadline for return is 10:00 a.m. on May 23, for 7th-11th students, and Friday, May 10 for 12th graders (unless prior approval granted). A $5.00 late fee is charged per day for overdues according to the current student handbook. ***Senior back fees are due May 8.***
Announcements Related to LCHS Athletic and Extracurricular Events
- We have 27 track team members who qualified for the state meet. The state meet will be May 3-4 at Cullman High School.
- Golf earned 1st place in their sectional competition at Hampton Cove. They will play in sub-state on Monday, May 6, at Glencoe Silver Lakes Golf Course.
- Softball will play in the North Alabama Regional Tournament on Thursday, May 9. The first game is at 9:00 am. The tournament is at the Florence Sportsplex.
- Baseball tryouts for current 6th and 7th graders will be Tuesday-Wednesday, May 7-8 after school at the baseball field. All participants must have a physical on file. You can pick up a physical form in Coach Looney’s room.
- Junior high girls basketball tryouts will be May 6-8, from 3:15-5:00 all days. All girls must have a physical exam completed before trying out.
- Junior high boys basketball tryouts will be May 14-15 in the old gym from 3:00-5:00 both days. All boys must have a physical exam completed before trying out.
Announcements Related to School Clubs, Events, Activities, and Opportunities
- The drama club will be presenting Sally Cotter and the Censored Stone Thursday and Friday (May 2 & 3) at 7:00 PM in the A.V.room. Admission is $5.00. So if you’re a Harry Potter fan (and even if you’re not), make plans to come see the play.
- Beta Club members need to return their order sheets for the picnic to Mrs. Casey Mason (10-12) or Mrs. Karen Grisham (7-9).
- If you are interested in working on the Yearbook staff next year, see Mrs. Anna Nunley for an application.
- There will be a senior "cap & gown" walk-through video made in the elementary hall on Monday, May 6.
- *Senior Class Night is Monday, May 6.* Note change of date.
- The band's spring concert will be Tuesday, May 7, beginning at 6:00 pm. The band banquet will be Friday, May 10, at 6:00 pm.
- Seniors who have received awards or scholarships need to fill out the Awards Day form sent via email in order to be recognized at Awards Day on May 8.
- The beauty pageant is scheduled for May 9. Registration forms will be accepted thru May 1.
- The drama club banquet will be Friday, May 17.
- Students in grades 9-11, if you were absent and missed Mrs. Newton pre-registering you for next school year, please come by the guidance office to pick up forms.
- Students in grades 7-12, you have a login for FREE ACT prep...go to https://onlineprep.act.org. Username is your school email, and password is word Tiger with month and date of birth. Example password: Tiger1011 for an October 11 DOB. Other ACT resources: www.act.org/stateanddistrict/examinees and https://academy.act.org/
- All students in grades 7-12 are invited to the First Priority meetings each Thursday at 7:30 am in the high school library.
- Co-op packets are now available in the guidance office. Deadline to apply for co-op is May 23. This is for current juniors for their senior year only. Participating students must have a job in a related CTE field you have participated in at school or ATCTC.
Announcements Related to School Fees and Orders
- No students or teachers should be charging food in the lunchroom. Please do not carry a negative balance on your lunchroom account. If you have a negative balance currently, please pay it off as soon as possible.
- All seniors need to pay any fees owed the school by May 8. Underclassmen need to pay any fees owed the school *before* their exams on May 21-23.
Announcements Related to Local Programs, Opportunities, Competitions, and Activities
- Any current 10th or 11th grader interested in taking EMT at ATCTC next school year should contact Mrs. Newton.
- The Alabama STEM Education Program will be hosting the first STEM Expose on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Please visit the website at www.alabamastemeducation.org for additional information. All middle and high schools in the state are encouraged to participate in the STEM Expose. Should you need additional information, you may contact Mrs. Juanita Graham (Executive Director) Alabama STEM Education at alabamastemeducation@gmail.com.
- Mississippi State School of Architecture is hosting Design Discovery June 7-13. This is for students at least 16 years of age. Cost is $600. See Mrs. Newton if you need additional information.
- Attention current 9/10/11 graders, the Annual Alabama Lions High School Leadership Forum will be June 21-23 at Troy University. The cost is $150. Deadline to apply is May 24. Forms are available in the guidance office or online at www.ALHSLF.org.
- Deadline for the national June administration of ACT is May 3. Remember if you qualify for free/reduced lunch and are in 11th grade you can get a fee waiver to participate at no cost.
- Students interested in volunteering at the new hospital in Florence should complete this application. Deadline is May 15. https://ecmhospital.com/teen-volunteer-application/
- Southern Union State Community College is offering two summer STEM experiences for students who are underrepresented in STEM fields. Rising juniors and seniors may apply for IMAGINE, a one-week program, and graduated seniors may apply for ACHIEVE, a three-week program. Apply at www.suscc.edu/imagine.cms. Application deadline is May 16. There is more information in the Guidance Office if you are interested.
- The Ritz Theater, is offering its facilities and professional staff to provide services for students 9 - 12 that are interested in the performing arts (vocal performance, acting, dance, etc.) If you would like to be a part of this program auditions are May 18. Come by the guidance to pick up an application.
- Air Force Recruiter will be here on May 7 @ 1:15 PM in the library for interested students.
Announcements Related to College Admissions and Information Sessions
- The Naval Academy will have an informational meeting at Huntsville Library on Tuesday, May 7 (5:00 to 7:00 PM) for students middle school and high school ages and parents who want to learn more about the Naval Academy and becoming an officer in the Navy or Marine Corps. Announcements Related to Scholarships, Awards, and Financial Aid
- The Tommy Smith Scholarship is accepting scholarship applications until May 31. To be eligible for the scholarship you must be a high school student that has been accepted into a college or university. Guidelines for the application: Write an essay answering the question, If you could start any business while in college or afterward what would it be and why? You must submit the form by May 31. A winner will be selected and contacted in June. Once the winner responds (within 2 weeks) the $1,000.00 will be sent to the winner's financial aid department. - The Kids’ Chance Scholarship is accepting applications until May 1 for students who have a parent that was killed or permanently and totally disabled in an on-the-job accident. See Mrs. Newton if you are eligible.
- The Horatio Alger Association Career and Technical Education Scholarship is now available. This scholarship is for students who are enrolling in Career and Technical Education for the Fall of 2019. You may apply online at application.horatioalger.org until June 15. See Mrs. Newton or Mrs. Morgan for more information.
