Substitute Information and Applications

As of October 2025, the Alabama Department of Education has made changes to the process of obtaining a substitute teacher license for the state. 

Steps to Substitute in the Lauderdale County School System 

  1. Click here to read and review the information from the State Department. 
  2. Click here to create an ALSDE number in the AIM Portal
  3. Click here to complete the local substitute form.
  4. The Lauderdale County Board of Education will apply for your AL State Substitute Teacher License when all the information above is completed. Do not attempt to apply for the state license in ACE.
  5. Pay the required state background check fee of $46.20 in the AIM portal. (Must complete step 2 to obtain your ALSDE number.)
  6. Pay the $38 online fee for your state license. You can find the payment information in the AIM Portal. We no longer accept money orders.
  7. Attend a required training session at the Main Board of Education office. These are offered throughout the year, and dates are available on our district calendar.

Nurse, Cafeteria, Custodian, and Bus Driver
