Title I funds are provided by the federal government school-wide to eight schools in the Lauderdale County School System (LCSS) for the 2023-2024 school year, including Brooks Elementary, Central School, Lauderdale County High School, Lexington School, Rogers School, Underwood Elementary, Waterloo School, and Wilson School. Being a Title I school means receiving federal funding (Title I dollars) to supplement the schools’ existing programs. These federal funds are in addition to available state and local funding to LCSS schools.

Title I funds provide additional teachers to strengthen student learning, pay for supplemental program materials and supplies, and enable schools to conduct parent and family engagement meetings, training, and activities at the local schools.

Each Title I school develops a Continuous Improvement Plan to describe its program for the school year. The CIPs and the Board-approved Title I Consolidated Plan are available for review by the public. Plans are located at each local school's office and the Lauderdale County Central Office.

Parents may have a complaint or disagreement with the local school's Continuous Improvement Plans and/or Title I Consolidated Plan.

To remedy a complaint situation, parents should submit the complaint to their local school or the Lauderdale County district office. The Title I Advisory Committee reviews the comments and sends them to the local school's Continuous Improvement Plan Committee to consider. The school's committee decides if adjustments in the school CIP are required.

A Title I school must be identified as a school-wide or targeted assistance school. The federal government uses the free/reduced lunch percentage in determining which schools are designated as Title I schools. The free/reduced lunch student population must be 40 percent or greater at a school. To be served as a targeted assistance school, the free/reduced lunch percentage must be 35 percent or greater.

For more information about Federal Title I programs, you may call the Board of Education at 256-760-1300 or your local school.

It is the policy of the Lauderdale County Board of Education that no one will be excluded from participation, be denied benefits, or be discriminated against in any school program or activity based on sex, race, religion, belief, national origin, ethnic group, color, age, or disability.
