English Language Learners
English Learner Program
The English Learner (EL) program assists students whose first language at home is not English. Students are assisted in language development.
According to the U.S. Department of Education, the latest report shows that in the fall of 2017, 10.1 percent of all children attending a public school in the nation identifies as English language learners who speak a language other than English at home. In Alabama, that number is approximately 3.5 percent of students. In our state, as well as the nation, about 75 percent of EL learners speak Spanish at home.
