Artistic Renderings of Youth 2017
Lara Muck

A large number of students from the Advertising Design Department here at Allen Thornton Career Technical Center have been awarded the privilege of having their artwork accepted and exhibited in the annual Artistic Renderings of Youth Exhibit held at the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts in downtown Florence.

Artistic Renderings of Youth, is celebrating its 25th year of highlighting student artwork from Lauderdale, Colbert, and Franklin Counties.  The exhibit represents a diverse spectrum of mediums to include paintings, drawings, sculpture, computer generated works, and photography.

It’s not uncommon for Artistic Renderings of Youth to receive 2,000-3,000 submissions each year from students and art teachers in Lauderdale, Colbert and Franklin counties.  Before the ribbons are awarded, the entries must first be culled to fewer than 400 for display purposes.  A certain percentage of works are pulled from each school to ensure that every school is represented based on the number submitted.

Works are grouped by grade — seventh-eighth, ninth-10th and 11th-12th —with Best of Show, first, second, third places and honorable mention ribbons are awarded within each group. Additional ribbons are given for Best 3-D, Best Photograph and Best Computer-Generated works.

The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts will hold a reception from 5:30-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017 to celebrate Artistic Renderings of Youth’s 25th anniversary. The public is invited with past participants, show winners and art teachers especially encouraged to attend. In addition to the exhibit, there will be a silent auction of artwork by art educators, refreshments and live music.

Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is at 217 E. Tuscaloosa St. in Florence. The center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.
